How legalizing marijuana will lower crime rates in cities

Marijuana, also known as cannabis is a drug that causes a variety of physical and mental effects. Cannabis generally contains between 5 and 15 percent THC, also known as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that is the chemical responsible for the majority, but not all of the psychological effects of cannabis.

Legalizing marijuana would allow it to be taken from the control of criminals and accessible for the control of police agencies. Production would be regulated, allowing authorities to evaluate the purity, quality and potency as well as harmful substances before distribution to the public. In addition, taxation on cannabis products may be introduced to boost the revenue generated by the state.

This argument is closely linked to the idea that legalizing marijuana will lead to a more efficient allocation police resources. The legalization of marijuana has lead in certain parts of the world to horrific prison conditions for minor drug offenders, and also it diverts resources away from combating violent crime.

Legalization also allows authorities to manage the distribution process. To ensure that drugs aren’t offered as candy to schoolchildren and children, standards for quality could be set. The dealers currently have no motivation to avoid selling illegal drugs to children. The government would be given the ability to impose taxation on marijuana, which would give them an amount of the revenue from its production or distribution. Legalization leads to a decrease in criminality and a decrease in state spending due to less need for police.

Legalization would also allow the government to regulate environmental impact of marijuana cultivation. Some worry that the massive marijuana production will lead to deforestation, soil erosion and depletion of resources, and also the pollution of chemicals. If state authorities are allowed to regulate cultivation techniques that cause negative environmental effects, they can be reduced or even eliminated.

Legalization could allow for better education programs regarding the use of marijuana. These programs could be targeted at children and teens as they are informed of the possible adverse side effects resulting from the consumption of marijuana. Instead of being concealed from the public by dealers in the business who have no motivation to keep them informed, information on legal use of marijuana is available to everyone interested in learning more about these substances.

The state can also tax and control the sale of drugs if legalization is approved. Legalization may result in more revenues for the state, and the reduction of crime and its harmful social effects. The environmental negative effects of marijuana production can be minimized or prevented by state authorities who will be in charge of monitoring cultivation techniques and areas for cultivation. More education about marijuana use may allow people to make informed choices regarding marijuana use.

There are a myriad of reasons to allow marijuana use. Very few arguments against it. Criminalization’s negative impacts will far outweigh any advantages that might result from it. It is evident that marijuana should be legalized by government officials for recreational purposes.
